National goal for Northern NSW Football
Clubs from Northern NSW (NNSW) will join eight of Football Federation Australia’s other member Federations to participate in the 2014 NPL season launched yesterday by Football Federation Australia (FFA).
In the NPL’s second year, NNSW clubs will join clubs from Football Federation Victoria and Football West competing for the first time.
Speaking at yesterday’s official launch in Sydney, FFA CEO David Gallop said it was an important competition that underpins the Hyundai A-League.
“Following the inaugural NPL rollout last year, we have seen a number of players graduate from the NPL to the professional ranks of the Hyundai A-League which is one of the key objectives of the competition and football pathway,” he said.
“This year we will see youth teams from some Hyundai A-League clubs compete in their respective NPL competition to ensure that our most talented players maximise their development opportunities by being able to play competitive football twelve months a year.
“We also acknowledge the efforts of the Member Federation and clubs. We have three new Federations on board being Northern NSW Football, Football Federation Victoria and Football West, which makes the NPL a truly national competition.”
Northern NSW Football CEO David Eland said the National Premier Leagues was a great initiative.
"I’m confident that NNSWF’s involvement will lift the standards of our premier men’s clubs on and off the field," he said.
"The support from the volunteers that operate our elite clubs has been outstanding. The opportunity for our Premiers to compete in a National Final Series adds another dimension to our competition.
“The NPL is now recognised as a vital component of NNSWF’s Integrated Talented Player Pathway with the Emerging Jets competing in each of the Under Age divisions and the Jets Youth competing in the Open NPL ”
